Dr. Seemantani Sharma is the Legal Manager of Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). She is an international media, copyright, and broadcasting lawyer with 12 years of postqualification experience. At ABU, she has been closely involved in media law policy making and advocacy on behalf of ABU members, sports rights acquisition and distribution in Asia-Pacific, drafting and vetting content license agreements. She has also been closely involved in advocating for the proposed broadcasters’ treaty under the aegis of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and has been closely working with national intellectual property offices in Asia-Pacific on regulatory measures to combat signal piracy. She holds a PhD in Law from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) where she was a commonwealth scholar. Her PhD thesis was a comparative study on the performers’ rights of Bharatanatyam dancers and classical ballet dancers in India and Australia respectively. In 2022, he completed a Certificate in Contract Law from the Harvard University. She holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in Intellectual Property from the George Washington University. At the George Washington University, she was an executive member of the Media & Entertainment Law Society. She completed her Bachelor Laws from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in India. She is licensed to practice law in India. She is fluent in English and Hindi.
